Alf Wheeler
Alf Wheeler was born in Windsor, Berkshire and educated at Windsor County Boy's School. In 1949 his family moved to Shinfield near Reading and took up Market Gardening.
After National Service in the RAF he studied Mechanical Engineering at Reading College of Further Education, working first at Pulsometer Engineering Co. and later at AERE Harwell.
Moving to Park Lane, Thatcham, in 1966 with Audrey his wife, and children Malcolm and Caroline, he worked for the Marley Tile Co. and later for Key-Terrain Ltd, a subsidiary of Reed Building Products Division, where he stayed until he retiered in 1998. Besides being Secretary of Thatcham Historical Society his interests are opera and cycling.
