Bill Butler

Bill Butler moved to Thatcham with a young family in 1961 and soon became involved in St Mary's Church. A dedicated church bell-ringer, he already represented the diocese of Oxford on the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers, colliqually known as "The Ringers' Parliament", a post that he still holds today.

His life-long interest in the history of bells and churches is shown by his impressive list of publications which include technical treatises as well as research into 18th and 19th century handbell founders. His Thatcham published work includes "Thatcham - Then and Now" (1983) and "Thatcham Churchwardens, 1413 to 2005" (2005). He has several booklets on aspects of St Mary's church awaiting publication.
